At the end of July, the Institute of Health Strategy and Policy (Ministry of Health) successfully organized a conference on providing evidence regarding the harm of tobacco, sugary beverages and harm reduction solutions, especially focusing on tax policies, at Him Lam Resort in Dien Bien.
The event was attended by representatives from 9 National Assembly delegations, officials from the Department of Tax Policy Management and Supervision, Ministry of Finance and international organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and HealthBridge Canada (H.B.).
During the event, representatives from the Institute of Health Strategy and Policy, National Institute of Nutrition; the World Health Organization (WHO), nutrition experts and UNICEF Vietnam highlighted the harmful effects of tobacco, sugary beverages; agreed with the Ministry of Finance’s proposal in the draft revised Special Consumption Tax Law, which is scheduled to be reviewed and potentially passed by the National Assembly in early 2025.
