On the morning of September 6th, 2024, in Tam Ky City, Quang Nam, the Vietnam Women’s Union organized a national forum titled “Identifying and Eliminating Harmful Cultural Practices: The Role of Youth in Ethnic Minority Communities.”
The forum gathered around 500 delegates, including Ms Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, Vice President of the Vietnam Women’s Union; Mr Phan Thai Binh, Standing Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee; along with representatives of provincial departments, agencies, and organizations from Quang Nam and the Central Highlands.
The event allowed speakers and youth participants to discuss and identify harmful cultural practices within ethnic minority communities, thereby proposing creative solutions to raise awareness and encourage the pioneering role of young people in eradicating such practices.
In her speech, Vice President Nguyen Thi Minh Huong emphasized that eliminating outdated cultural practices not only relies on interventions from authorities but also requires a shift in the mindset of the ethnic minority communities themselves. During the forum, delegates shared innovative ideas, practical experiences, and challenges faced during the process. They also proposed various solutions to enhance awareness and encourage ethnic communities to work together to abolish outdated customs.
